# Wedding Tip Calculator — Complete Tipping Data > Source: https://weddingtipcalculator.com — free wedding vendor tip calculator. This file contains the full tipping dataset the calculator uses. Figures are verified against The Knot Real Weddings Study, the WeddingWire Newlywed Report, and the Zola Wedding Spend Survey, plus interviews with working wedding planners and venue staff. Reviewed every January and August. ## Key rules 1. Most couples budget $1,500-$2,500 total in tips for 10-15 vendors. 2. "Gratuity" in a contract legally goes to staff. A "service charge" belongs to the company and may never reach workers — if the contract says service charge, tip staff separately. 3. Business owners traditionally don't expect tips, with two exceptions: hair & makeup artists (always tip 15-25%, salon-owner or not) and wedding planners (80-90% of couples tip). 4. Cash is preferred. Prepare labeled envelopes ahead of the wedding and assign a planner, parent, or best man to distribute them. 5. Tipping is discretionary — scale to service quality and budget. Tip higher for exceptional service. ## Tip table | Vendor | Typical tip | When to give | Tip if owner? | Gratuity in contract? | |---|---|---|---|---| | Catering Staff/Waiters | 15–20% | End of reception (give to catering manager to distribute) | Not expected | Often included — check contract | | Bartenders | $50–$100 per bartender | End of reception | Not expected | Often included — check contract | | Wedding Planner | 15–20% or $100–$500 | Final meeting or wedding day | Yes | Rarely included | | Day-of Coordinator | 15–20% or $200–$500 | End of wedding day | Yes | Rarely included | | Photographer | 5–15% or $50–$200 | End of reception or with final gallery delivery | Optional | Rarely included | | Videographer | 5–15% or $50–$200 | End of reception | Optional | Rarely included | | DJ | 10–15% or $50–$150 | End of reception | Optional | Rarely included | | Band/Musicians | $25–$50 per musician | End of reception (give to bandleader to distribute) | Optional | Rarely included | | Hair Stylist | 15–25% | After services (morning of wedding) | Yes | Rarely included | | Makeup Artist | 15–25% | After services (morning of wedding) | Yes | Rarely included | | Florist | $50–$200 total | Delivery day or wedding day | Optional | Rarely included | | Officiant (Religious) | $100–$500 donation | Before or after ceremony | Not expected | Rarely included | | Officiant (Secular) | $50–$100 total | After ceremony | Optional | Rarely included | | Limo/Shuttle Drivers | 15–20% or $50–$100 | End of each ride | Not expected | Often included — check contract | | Valet | $1–$5 per car | When car is retrieved | Not expected | Often included — check contract | | Cake Baker | $50–$100 total | Delivery | Optional | Rarely included | | Photo Booth Attendant | $50–$100 total | End of reception | Optional | Rarely included | | Delivery Personnel | $10–$50 per person | Upon delivery | Not expected | Rarely included | | Ceremony Musicians | $15–$50 per musician | After ceremony | Optional | Rarely included | | Coat Check | $1–$2 per guest | When retrieving coats | Not expected | Often included — check contract | ## Per-vendor notes ### Catering Staff/Waiters - Tip: 15–20% - When: End of reception (give to catering manager to distribute) - Tip the owner?
